Creep damage analysis of mod.9Cr-1Mo steel welds considering void mechanics modeling

چکیده

Since creep strength reduction of mod.9Cr-1Mo steel welds in long-term was confirmed experimentally, residual life prediction for Type IV failure has been an important theme Ultra Super Critical (USC) plants after service. The mechanism within the fine-grained heat affected zone (FGHAZ) is twofold; increase number density voids a size comparable to FGHAZ grain (5 μm), and strain softening last stage life. In this paper, damage analysis scheme considering above two mechanisms applied welded joints with non-uniform weld metal materials, (HAZ) base metal, such as those found large uniaxial cross-weld specimens. A void mechanics model expresses (creep density) terms nucleation, which strongly influenced by multiaxial state stress. critical value corresponding initiation micro-crack determined based on results random-fracture-resistance boundaries authors paper. Both distribution process crack initiation, propagation final rupture predicted are compared experimental at 650 °C.

Measurement of local creep properties in stainless steel welds

A high temperature measurement system for creep deformation based on the digital image correlation (DIC) technique is described. The new system is applied to study the behaviour of a multi-pass welded joint in a high temperature tensile test and a load controlled creep test at 545°C. Spatially resolved tensile properties and time dependent creep deformation properties across a thick section typ...

‌Progressive Damage Analysis of Laminated Composites using Continuum Damage Mechanics

In this paper, progressive damage and global failure of composite laminates under quasi-static, monotonic loading are investigated using 3D continuum damage mechanics. For this purpose, a finite element program has been developed using an eight-node 2D layered element including layer-wise plate theory. Damage analysis of a single orthotropic layer under various uniform in-plane and transverse l...

Strong Ferritic – Steel Welds

There are many steels which are stronger than 2000 MPa, with toughness values exceeding 100 MPa m and which have been in commercial service for many decades. Examples include the marageing alloys and carbide–free bainitic steels. By contrast, welding consumables with a proof strength in excess of 1000 MPa are few and far between. This is because whereas wrought steels can be thermomechanically ...

Measurement of Creep Deformation across Welds in 316H Stainless Steel Using Digital Image Correlation

Spatially resolved measurement of creep deformation across weldments at high temperature cannot be achieved using standard extensometry approaches. In this investigation, a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) based system has been developed for long-term high-temperature creep strain measurement in order to characterise the material deformation behaviour of separate regions of a multi-pass weld. Th...

Experimental Analysis of Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Pre-Stressed Concrete Sleepers B70: Part B- Analysis

Initial cracks occur in high strength concrete sleepers for various reasons, such as shrinkage and wrong curing and long lifetime of over 50 years of sleepers. These cracks may lead to complete failure of the structure. In order to more accurately design the sleepers, fracture mechanics (not strength of materials) should be incorporated. In order to achieve this purpose, it is important to fore...
